Killing floor 1 workshop not downloading.

My friend is trying to install mods from the steam workshop for killing floor but they won t download and we have no idea why. Want to try your hand at modding or want to upload your mod to steam. I do have 3 workshop maps that i was already subscribed to before installing the game that i can play on but i subbed to them a few years back and when i recently re installed kf they were already there. I ve waiting 15 minutes to see if there was a delay and still nothing. Clearing the cache didn t work but subscribing to the associated maps on the workshop seemed to work for the maps i had a problem with.
